Anxiety is experienced differently by different people. The bottom line is always fear.
For some people it is a restlessness. They can never relax. For others it is a constant state of being on edge. For others they cant enjoy anything as they are continuously consumed by crazy thoughts that are very unsettling and disturbing.
Each individual is treated uniquely in Chinese medicine. We have no formulas for anxiety but each type of person feels it differently. For a fiery person anxiety is a state of utter restlessness and they fill that unease with talking and laughing. For a fearful person it is like always being on edge they hate unpredictable events they need to control their environment as much as possible to calm down that hidden fear or anxiety. For another person they need always to be in control to contain that unease or anxiety.
Acupuncture for anxiety seeks to understand the individual.
Once the person is treated according to their weakness or imbalance the energy settles and the anxiety goes. It might take 1 or several sessions depending on the severity of the problem. For people suffering from post traumatic stress there is depression as well as anxiety which somehow reflects energy that is blocked or not flowing . Depression is the lack of expression of the vital energy in us which allows us to be direct , powerful, even angry sometimes. When that energy is held inside depression arises.
Usually when there is severe anxiety and severe depression there usually is some kind of trauma that has happened. Traditional acupuncture is very effective in treating trauma.
